The Maison

Old values. New traditions.

Fratz is a men's Tracht label from Vienna. We take the Janker, the waistcoat and the Lederhose seriously – and ourselves a little less.

Born in Vienna

Fratz redefines men's Tracht for the modern anti-hero. Born of Viennese culture and crafted in Italy, for the modern gentleman – or, as we call him, the Rosenkavalier.

Slim fits, ironic details you only notice up close, and a black rose stitched where only its wearer will find it. Tradition, interpreted with a straight face and a raised eyebrow.

The Rosenkavalier

In Vienna, the Rosenkavalier is the cavalier who brings the silver rose – the hero of Richard Strauss's opera, set in the city's rococo salons. Courtly manners, a romantic gesture and a little mischief behind the bow.

At Fratz, he is the man who wears us: the modern gentleman, the braves Bua and the Lausbua in one rebellious soul. He knows the rules well enough to break them properly – and instead of a silver rose, he carries a black one.

Twists in the Tracht

All black, rethought.

We play with twists in the Tracht. Every element of traditional Tracht has a meaning – and so does wearing it all in black. We keep that meaning and modernise the thinking behind it: modern cuts, unexpected materials and total tonal looks, everything in one colour from collar to Lederhose.

All black still carries a hint of mourning. Worn the Fratz way, it also stands for timelessness, elegance and quiet luxury. Properly improper.

The nice boy and the rascal

Duality

In Viennese, a Fratz is a cheeky rascal. Every piece is both: well-behaved at first glance, rebellious at the second.

Black humour

We like irony, a little sarcasm and the kind of joke you only get on the second read. Tracht does not have to be earnest to be respected.

Responsibility

Handmade in small runs in a family workshop in Italy, made to last for decades rather than seasons.

The black rose

Our central symbol. Elegant yet defiant, romantic yet dangerous. It shows up on our buttons, inside cuffs and as tonal details – always present, never loud.
